Great chicharrone & bean burrito w green! The green chile had just the right kick to it. I'll be eating here every time back in Santa Fe!
The fattest, yummiest breakfast burrito I've ever had. Hand-held burrito requires at least two hands to hold.
Fire!!!! Straight up incredibly delicious food and if you want HOT green chile they have it here. I can't say enough about how amazing the food is here - the burgers especially just incredible. Super down to earth atmosphere and the staff are quick and helpful. There definitely something special about Horseman's Haven and I highly recommend stopping by.
Stopped here got lunch after a long trip yesterday and work. I'd have to agree with many other reviewers it was excellent. Breakfast was still available so I got the heuvos rancheros and it was great. The green chile on top had a lot of zip! It was hot but grew up in Az a long time ago so was hoping for that. Eggs were done perfectly and the tortilla on the side was great. The beans and potatoes that came with it were all so good together I had a hard time stopping from the whole plate which was huge. Service was excellent and friendly. Kind of old school vibe to it which was perfect ambience for the place. Will be back next trip. Maybe even breakfast again before I head home tomorrow!
On the way for a fund day of fishing and decided to stop in for breakfast. This little quaint breakfast spot was busy but we found a spot to sit. We ordered the huevos rancheros. I loved that they had it in blue corn tortillas. The potato's we a little crispy and but soft as well. We also ordered the breakfast burrito. The red Chile was full of flavor, not spicy at all, but I did not mind as it had amazing flavor to go with the dish. The green chile however had a kick to it, but did not overwhelm the dish. The prices were reasonable for the portions of food you get. This is a definite must go to spot if you visit Santa Fe.
Ah what a taste. But as a critic I want to talk about the positives and negatives. We had two dishes and both definitely delicious, especially the green chili sauce. They provide enough food to take home for the average person and that makes it worth the price. But I had to go up and ask for silverware, never got water cups and realized later that we had to pay in the front. This could have been fixed from the waiters/ workers coming to us at any time instead of talking, and a simple sign at the start that told you where to pay if they didn't tell us. I was just passing by and I don't think I'll go back, but the food was great, don't get me wrong there.
We love this place. Huge glasses of ice water! Reliable New Mexican cuisine, the chile sauces are *very* warming. I always order the chicken enchiladas and there's plenty of chicken in there. Generous portions. Good prices. Friendly service.
Whenever someone's going to Santa Fe and asks me where to eat, Horseman's Haven tops the list for New Mexican food. Situated far down Cerrillos from the Plaza (next to a gas station), this no-frills place caters mostly to locals. It's known for the hottest green chile in town, but offers so much more. We rolled in for breakfast and sat down. No wait. Servers came quickly and we had drinks in no time. After ordering, we had time to take in the surroundings, which reflect the varied tastes of people who live here. MMA event posters. A longhorn rack above the kitchen window. Vigas in the ceiling. Figurines of horses and livestock. Various paintings, prints, and busts. In a short few minutes, our food arrived. Adovada Enchiladas with Green Chile This dish is listed in my Yelp profile as what I'd choose for my last meal on Earth. Thankfully, that wasn't the case, but it was incredible, as always. Blue corn tortillas are layered with rich, delectable chunks of adovada and topped with cheese and green Chile that commands your attention, but isn't crazy hot and plays well with the red adovada. The quality of chile here stands out. It comes with beans, a side of posole, and a tortilla. The rest of the family ate traditional breakfast items--eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast. Each was good quality and up to par. Everything starts with quality ingredients and tastes great. Both red and green are on the hot side of average and rich in flavor. That's square one for New Mexican food. I vouch for the enchiladas with any filling, the huevos rancheros, and the sopapillas. Level 2 This special green chile comes only as a side. Why? It scorches. While paying, I asked if I could try it. I got a few chips, a little cup of phosphorescent green stuff--and an extra large cup of ice water.. My mouth was on fire, my tongue swelled up,before running next door to get a pint of ice cream at the gas station. It took an hour to speak again. Be careful! Horseman's Haven is a must-stop for me when I'm in town. Don't come if you want to see and be seen or for instagram. Come for incredible New Mexican food in a low-key setting.
Stopped in here based on reviews and weren't disappointed. Greeted at the door and told to seat ourselves. Pleasant waitress provided menus and took our drink order. We ordered a Frito pie as an appetizer and it arrived quickly, was hot, both with heat and green chilies and was delicious. We both ordered the steak and eggs and a perfectly cooked rib steak and eggs was delivered timely just after we finished the Frito pie. The steak and eggs quickly went the way of the Frito pie for a very satisfying meal. Prices are reasonable and I highly recommend them.
